"The public doesn't always realize the production, use and disposal of electronic products can have a broad range of adverse environmental and human health impacts. However, Idesco knows its responsibility. As an RFID product development company we design and deliver cutting-edge electronic products not only to meet your business requirement for quality. Our scalable and versatile solutions for secure, cost-effective and user-friendly identification systems also help conserve energy. Additionally, Idesco works hard to ensure the smallest ecological footprint across its product line - from fabrication byproducts to end-of-life recycleability.
eco20 - Low Power Consumption
eco20 products are significantly more efficient because they consume 60% less energy when compared not only to earlier Idesco versions but most competitor's comparable products on the market. Our low power consumption un turn cascades beneficially across the required power supplies and utility equipment connected to your entire end-user system. Low power consumption means less power supplies, peripheral equipment, communication converters etc.
Green Design improves the ecological footprint of our products
Idesco knows its responsibility for its product waste. It's what drives our sustainable product design because in Finland we are accountable for recovery and recycling of our products. Therefore, it's not only safer but also much more cost-effective to design and manufacture products that are nonhazardous, durable, reusable and upgradeable with configuration cards or software updates than it is to manufacture solely against disposable convenience and a rapid product turnover. Idesco constantly strives for a 'deeper shade of green' in environmental performance by stipulating the use of sustainable plastic in its designs and defining life cycle criteria for sustainable plastics.
Benefits of Wireless Technology
Idesco's entire wireless Cardea product family is based on an eco20 platform.
- It uses less cabling
- Ensures faster and more energy-efficient installations
- Easy and cost-effective wireless data transfer between devices in the network
- Less materials for recycling at product's end of life cycle
Idesco's Product Lifecycle Policy
"Our goal is to reduce the environmental impact of our products throughout their long life cycle. We design our products to last a minimum of a ten years - in demanding surroundings. We continue limiting the materials used in our products. These materials are selected in to meet our company's high standards of low environmental impact. We also expect our subcontractors to meet our environmental principles. We expect our subcontractors to use resources (e.g. raw materials) effectively and we also expect that their production meets the laws and regulations and that their operation is environment friendly"
- From Idesco Company Environmental Plan.
Idesco accepts its responsibility to encourage customers to manage the end of life phase of their products. Our responsibility in turn drives our innovation, business models, recycling logistics and evolutions in design, all with one goal in mind: to reduce the ecological footprint our business has on our shared environment, our home.
Idesco's Company Environmental Plan articulates guidelines for managing the interface between our environment and the company in a way that is intended to improve our planet's environmental sustainability. Idesco supports policies to leverage safer chemical and material use in electronic products. Idesco follows the listed regulations on halogenated chemicals (bromine and chlorine based chemicals), heavy metals and other high hazard chemicals:
- REACH – a new chemical policy that requires public disclosure and safer substitution for high hazard chemicals, including those that persist and accumulate in the environment and or are linked to cancer and reproductive harm.
- US and EU chemical regulations.
- ROHS – European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances which currently bans certain applications of mercury, lead, certain brominated flame retardants (PBDEs, PBBs), and cadmium.
- National Electronics Sustainability Initiative that establishes a federal program to provide incentives and resources for green chemistry and engineering developments in the electronic sector.
- WEEE – Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipments – collection and recycling of such devices.
