Public Transport / Fare collection

The Nordic IT Solutions company Fara has delivered more than 20 proximity card systems built upon Idesco's proximity technology in the cities of Turku, Jyväskylä, Oulu, Kuopio, Lahti, Uppsala and Marburg just to name a few.

Additionally, Helsinki and its surrounding municipalities have deployed a fare collection system Fara built around Idesco-engineered RFID technology for that city's public transportation systems. In brief, the Helsinki system handles 1 million boarding transactions per day across 1300 buses, 110 trams, 90 local trains and 42 underground trains. It deploys 2500 proximity validators, 1500 ticket-issuing machines, 100 inspector terminals, 35 depot systems, 320 card reloading and sales devices and over 1 million Idesco proximity cards.

The proximity cards provided by Idesco for Helsinki's system are fully reloadable and can be loaded with time, value or both. Additionally, passengers can not only reload their cards at service points and stations but also at many kiosks and shops all over the Helsinki region. They are also able to track in real time the sums they have loaded and the journeys they have purchased. Finally, the cards also support and facilitate usage measurements and data collection by the entire system to assist in future route planning.
