IDESCO EPC – A passive long-distance RFID reader for vehicle identification (AVI)

26th March 2010

With the Idesco EPC reader it is easy to create cost-effective identification applications for vehicle identification (AVI), logistic systems and access control.

“I really wouldn't change back to any old parking system using tickets, cards or ID codes. Idesco's solution is easy and comfortable, when you don't have to stop and open the car window while entering the car park.” - A customer of Idesco.

Idesco has 20 years experience of providing high-quality RFID for industrial, logistics applications, access control and automated vehicle identification products. Idesco EPC is a passive long range UHF reader, which is a modern and user-friendly device for vehicle identification. Idesco EPC reader is a very easy to deploy. The customer can choose the configuration of the EPC reader when ordering the device from Idesco and the settings are done according to customer demands. When powering up, the EPC reader starts reading tags automatically. The EPC reader can be also provided without any automated function. Then the reader will wait for the commands from the information system. The functions can be specified by the customers, who create the application based on the readers communication protocol.

Idesco’s EPC has several communication interface options. The customer can choose from the basic Wiegand and RS232 interfaces or choose the RS485, Ethernet or Wireless 6LowPan as an option. The EPC reader with an Ethernet interface is secured with IP67. With the supplied installation kit for the EPC, the reader can be easily installed to desired angle on the corner or wall.

Idesco provides tags for vehicle identification, where the tag is installed to the windscreen or metal surface. The tags for person identification are an ISO-card supplied in a keychain holder. The ISO-card can be equipped with a dual chip, which enables the use of two technologies, EPC and MIFARE®. When using a dual chip the same IDs can be read from both of the chips, which mean the same card can be used for vehicle and person identification.

The EPC reader operates also according to the European UHF (Ultra High Frequency) regulations. A protection class and wide operation temperature range allows the use of EPC reader in indoor and outdoor environments. See more details about the EPC reader from the datasheet below:
