”In public it's less known that production, use and disposal of electronic products has a broad range of adverse environmental and human health impacts. Idesco knows its responsibility. As an RFID product development company it designs and delivers cutting-edge electronic products that are known for their quality and that are designed to meet the business demands of its customers. Idescos’ scalable and versatile solutions help the customers to build secure, cost-effective and user-friendly identification systems which contribute to more productive and effective way of using resources. Idesco delivers these products and services in accordance with its company’s environmental policy.”
eco20 - low power consumption
eco20 products are more energy efficient as they use 60% less power compared to their previous sister products and most of the other products available on the market. Low power consumption is enabling increased chain effect for minimizing the power supplies and utility equipment connected to the entire end user system. Thus low power consumption means less power supplies, peripheral equipment, communication converters etc.
Green design to improve the ecological footprint of products
Responsibility for product waste encourages Idesco's sustainable product design because they become accountable for take-back and recycling. It is more cost effective and safer to design and use products that are nonhazardous, more durable and reusable and able to be upgraded by configuration cards or software upgrades. Defining a deeper shade of green for sustainable plastic use in electronic products Idesco encourages designs that profiles the environmental performance of prominently used plastics in electronic enclosures and defines life cycle criteria for sustainable plastics.
Benefits of Wireless technologies
Idesco’s wireless Cardea product family is based on eco20 platform.
- Less cabling
- Quicker and more energy efficient installations
- Easy and cost effective wireless data transfer between devices in the network
- Less materials for recycling after the life cycle
Idesco’s product lifecycle policies
“We reduce the environmental impact of our products throughout their long life cycle. Our products are designed to have at least a ten years life cycle in demanding surroundings. We continue to limit the materials used in our products. All materials are selected in order to meet company environmental policy. We also expect our subcontractors to meet our environmental principles. We expect our subcontractors to use resources e.g. raw materials effectively and we also expect that their production meets the laws and regulations and that their operation is environment friendly”
- From Idesco Company Environmental Plan.
Idesco, as an individual producer, carries its responsibility encouraging its customer base how to manage the end of life phase of their products. This in turn drives innovation, such as business models, take-back logistics and design changes, to reduce the environmental impact of products at the end of their life.
In its own Company Environmental Plan Idesco sets the guidelines for managing the interface between the environment and company in a way that improves environmental sustainability.
Idesco is supporting policies that leverage safer chemical and material use in electronic products. Idesco follows the listed regulations on halogenated chemicals (bromine and chlorine based chemicals), heavy metals and other high hazard chemicals:
- REACH – a new chemical policy that requires public disclosure and safer substitution for high hazard chemicals, including those that persist and accumulate in the environment and or are linked to cancer and reproductive harm.
- US and EU chemical regulations.
- ROHS – European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances which currently bans certain applications of mercury, lead, certain brominated flame retardants (PBDEs, PBBs), and cadmium.
- National Electronics Sustainability Initiative that establishes a federal program to provide incentives and resources for green chemistry and engineering developments in the electronic sector.
- WEEE – Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipments – collection and recycling of such devices.
